Managing the Atom 2012-2013 Fellowships

The Project on Managing the Atom (MTA) at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is currently accepting applications for fellows for the 2012-2013 academic year.

About the Project:

The Managing the Atom project has a dual mission: (1) to advance policy-relevant research on reducing the risks from nuclear and radiological terrorism, stopping nuclear proliferation and reducing nuclear arsenals, lowering the barriers to safe and secure nuclear-energy use, and addressing the connections among these problems; and (2) to prepare the next generation of leaders for work in these arenas. MTA researchers not only engage in policy research and analysis, but also propose and promote policy innovations, and provide authoritative information to an interested public.

Fellowship Information for the 2012–2013 Academic Year:

Project on Managing the Atom offers fellowships for pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and mid-career researchers for one year, with a possibility for renewal, in the stimulating environment of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Fellows affiliated with the MTA Project attend regular research group meetings, participate in MTA events, and contribute to this web page and other MTA activities. Fellows are expected to pursue research with an orientation toward producing policy recommendations and to publish substantial work produced during their time with the Project. Potential fellows should apply through the Belfer Center's regular fellowship process to one of the programs specified above and should highlight research interests that are relevant to the MTA Project.

Applications for these fellowships for the 2012–2013 academic year will be accepted until January 14, 2012. Decisions will be announced by March 31, 2012.

Eligibility and Stipend Information:

The Belfer Center offers ten-month stipends of $34,000 to post-doctoral and advanced research fellows and $20,000 to pre-doctoral fellows. Applications for fellowships are welcome from recent recipients of the Ph.D. or equivalent degree, university faculty members, and employees of government, military, international, humanitarian, and private research institutions who have appropriate professional experience. In addition to candidates from academia, we are also interested in candidates from the national laboratories, government, and industry (though academic salaries are not likely to be competitive unless candidates have their own funding). A limited number of nonstipendiary fellowships for candidates with support from their home institutions or other sources can also be arranged.
