Editor/Senior Research Associate, Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control

The Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, a non-profit research and advocacy organization in Washington, DC, is seeking a senior research associate to serve as editor of Iranwatch.org. Iran Watch is a comprehensive website devoted to monitoring Iran’s capability for building weapons of mass destruction. The purpose of the site is to increase public awareness of the strategic situation in Iran and to make detailed knowledge of Iran’s weapon potential available to policymakers, the media, private scholars and the general public.
The senior associate will serve as principal investigator for Iran Watch and will be responsible for maintaining and updating all aspects of the website. With support from the executive director, the senior associate will also lead the Project’s advocacy and outreach on Iran. Duties will include:
writing regular op-ed-style bulletins for publication
conceptualizing, organizing and running roundtable discussions, and publishing a summary of findings based on these discussions
conducting and publishing interviews with experts on Iran and on weapons proliferation
investigating suspect sales of strategic technology to Iran and identifying Iranian and foreign entities that participate in such sales
participation in public events, including briefings, speeches and testimony
maintaining the site’s library, including a summary of enforcement actions and a database of entities linked to proliferation in and to Iran
maintaining relations with the web site’s subscribers
Qualifications: A strong academic background, including an advanced university degree (Master's, or equivalent). Candidates should also have three to five years’ experience in nonproliferation or national security, the ability to conduct in-depth open source research, excellent writing skills, a publication record, and a demonstrated commitment to stopping weapons proliferation. Candidates with a working knowledge of information technology, including website content management skills, are strongly preferred, as are candidates with experience in office and staff management.

Nuclear Futures Laboratory
Professional Specialist Position
A professional specialist position is available with Princeton University’s Nuclear Futures Laboratory, an initiative of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Program on Science and Global Security of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. The candidate will oversee and support a new project on small modular nuclear reactors assessing the proliferation risks of this emerging technology and analyzing the demand for it among developing countries. Applicants should have a PhD in engineering or the physical sciences and must have expertise in nuclear-reactor and fuel-cycle analysis. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise on emerging nuclear power programs, such as those of India or China, experience in energy-systems modeling, and policy issues related to one or more of these areas. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension based upon satisfactory performance. The salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience. Nonproliferation Analyst, Arms Control Association
The Arms Control Association (ACA), based in Washington, DC, is seeking to hire a Nonproliferation Analyst. Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Research Director, the Nonproliferation Analyst will be responsible for research, analysis, reporting and media outreach on nuclear, chemical and biological weapons proliferation and control.
Issue priorities include: nuclear nonproliferation in Iran, North Korea, South Asia and other regions; the control of nuclear materials; export controls; and multilateral treaty negotiations, including the NPT and IAEA safeguards.
Position requirements: Candidates should have outstanding written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, at least two years of professional experience in the non-proliferation and national security field and/or an advanced degree in a related field, and a commitment to ACA’s mission.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring developments related to issue priorities: nonproliferation, threat reduction, and multilateral arms control diplomacy
- Reporting for Arms Control Today (ACT)
- Policy analysis and advocacy, and media outreach including: writing issue briefs and op-eds; drafting ACA reports/briefing books; updating and drafting fact sheets for website; and organizing briefings for the media and policymakers

Program Associate For International Security & Energy Policy Programs, The American Academy of Arts and Sciences
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an international learned society and policy research center with headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, seeks a Program Associate to support its work on issues of Science and Global Security. The Academy’s Committee on International Security Studies is undertaking a major integrative project on the global nuclear future and energy policy. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to play a role in significant intellectual projects involving some of the country’s most outstanding scholars and practitioners. The Program Associate may also work on other projects.
Responsibilities:
The Program Associate will:
- Provide research support for the Academy’s Committee on International Security Studies and other related Academy projects;
- Work with Academy Fellows and senior staff to identify and develop new projects;
- Organize conferences and symposia;
- Edit research papers and publications;
- Help raise funds to support projects from foundations and other sources;
- Maintain general administrative oversight of the program, including supervision of Program Assistants and other Academy staff working in this area.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Ph.D. or other relevant degree, with demonstrated interest in and knowledge of international relations; issues of international security and nuclear nonproliferation; and related energy issues.
- Familiarity and experience with current policies and scholarship in international affairs and security policy;
- At least three years relevant experience in academic or project administration, and an interest in a career in international policy research;
- Excellent writing skills and communication skills;
- Successful grant writing experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.

M.A. Degree in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies (MANPTS), The Monterey Institute of International Studies
The Monterey Institute of International Studies has launched a new M.A. degree in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies (MANPTS) This degree, the first of its kind in the United States, prepares students for careers in analyzing, preventing, and responding to terrorist threats and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
Courses for this degree will be taught by faculty of the Graduate School of International Policy and Management; by policy, scientific, and technical specialists in the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program (MonTREP); and by experts invited from international organizations, government agencies, the private sector, and leading universities all over the world.
